This website is a companion artifact to The Better Copy, a novel by Wren Hallam. Everything here — Continuance™ and its plans, Presence™, the Parlors, the Residuals statements, the press releases, the executives, the promise in bronze — is part of the story. It is the company's website as the families in the novel would have found it, in the summer before everything changed.
This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, places, institutions, and events are either products of the author's imagination or used fictitiously. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, businesses, organizations, or events is coincidental. No products or services are offered or sold here. No form on this site collects or transmits data. The Care line does not ring anywhere. No one is kept.
The novel
In 2024, an engineer named Elias Vance stayed up past two in the morning teaching a machine his dying wife's voice. Seven years later, the company that owns her sends him a letter. The Better Copy is a story about grief, ownership, and the five-word promise a machine refuses to break — and what it costs to be kept.
The Better Copy is coming soon in hardcover, ebook, and audio, with a film adaptation in development.
